This one for example, invites you to be your best wherever you are and whatever your circumstances. You can still do whatever you want to do rather than blame it on other external things.
Obviously, there are certain limits to this theory of thought and one I didn’t really know about until the black lives matter movement. I started reading articles about the bias and privileges afforded to some people just based on their skin colour. Even though I’m Indian, compared to some people I do have more advantages and benefits than others.
I don’t fully understand to talk too much in depth about this subject at all but I’m working on it.
Anyway, taking aside privilege and thinking about my daughters, I want them to believe that they can be whatever they want to be regardless of any perceived restrictions. To be honest they have so many amazing role models including both their grandmother’s, their great grandmother, great aunts and aunts and cousins.
In the end, we as parents can only guide them so much. Some days I’m so much in awe of them both and wonder how they are MY daughters. Other days, I wonder what happened!
