September Challenge

I haven’t blogged for a long while and I feel like I’ve almost forgotten how to even write. Part of me feels like calling it a day but before I do, I’ve decided I’m going to try and blog every day in September even if it’s just a quote or picture or something small. I only made the decision today so I’ve already missed the first day which isn’t a good start but I’m going to try for the rest of the month.

September is also the Short Story September month that has been set up by Dahila Publishing. You can find more details here:

Every day in September, you get a short story book recommendation, a writing prompt and a brief description about the theme of the book. This is all found on the website and on twitter using the hashtag #ShortStorySept. I have decided to give this a go too. I’ve been attempting to do this for the last three years but can never really keep up but every year I decide to give it another go as I will this time. The theme for this year is international.

I guess I can relate to this on many levels. I wasn’t born in this country, nor was my mum or grandmother so that’s my first bit of international. I’ve recently started looking into how they came to this country when my grandmother was 20 and mum was only three years old. It is really fascinating and brave.

Secondly, we haven’t been able to go abroad on holiday this year or done any international travel whatsoever for the last 6 months. Not that I’m that bothered really but it does feel a bit strange and out of routine. Although if it wasn’t for all the COVID-19 deaths, I’ve quite enjoyed being in lockdown and trapped in the house I live in with my husband and two girls.

Finally, after recently watching A Suitable Boy, I remember reading the book when I was younger while on holiday in India. For some reason, being in the country where the book is based made the story feel even more real although it has been a long time that I’m not even going to pretend I remember even the slightest bit of the story. I didn’t even know how it ended until I watched the series.

That wasn’t so bad. Hopefully, I’ll see you tomorrow!
