One of the best things I like to read about is inspiring stories of people (especially women) who have achieved amazing success against all odds. This book is full of motivational stories like this, starting obviously with:
Annabel Karmel – Cookbooks for healthy food ideas for babies and children at different stages of growing up. This is where I first found out about Annabel Karmel. I was all into cooking healthy nutritious food for my babies.
Myleene Klass – Musician and clothes
Alex Polizzi – Hotelier and Millers Bespoke Bakery
Chrissie Rucker – The White Company
Chloe Macintosh – made.com
Liz Earle – skincare
Thomasina Miller – Wahacca
Jennifer Irvine – The Pure Package, a food delivery company
Jacqueline Gold – Ann Summers
Liz Jackson – Great Guns Markerting
Caroline Castigliano – Bridal Boutique
Thea Green – Nails Inc
Gail Rebuck – Chair of Penguin Random House
Katy Hymans – Mumlin
Lucy Jewson – Frugi childrens wear
Bev James – The Coaching Academy
Baukjen De Swaan Arons – Stylish Maternity wear
Caroline Longton and Justine Roberts – Mumsnet
Lynne Franks – SEED Network
Dessi Bell – Zaggora Fitness Clthes
Shelley Barrett – ModelCo/ Lashwand
Fiona Clark – Inspiredmums.co.uk
Sam Roddick – Coco de Mer
Wendy Shand – Totstotravel.co.uk
There are a few worksheets throughout the book, starting with finding your passion, listing your skills and finding a niche. It then goes on to making a plan and making it official and then goes into depth about how to grow your business. There are also very useful links to websites which give you more information and resources to get your idea into a fully fledged international bestseller.
It is a very resourceful and practical book with lots of very useful information and peppered with inspiring quotes such as “Dissatisfaction Breeds Opportunity”. If you do have an idea that you would like to sell to the world, then this book is ideal for you. Towards the end there is a lot of in depth technical information which I only skim read as I didn’t need that information. If however, you don’t have any ideas, just reading the stories is interesting and inspiring and doing some of the earlier worksheets encourages you to write down and highlight all of your skills. It is a bit of a long read, especially for time strapped mums but I would recommend this book to everyone.
